Chic in Westhampton Beach NY

There's a breezy calm about Chic, a women's clothing and accessories shop on Main Street in Westhampton Beach NY.

In contrast to some other local shops that try to cram too much merchandise into their floor areas, Chic gives you space to step back and admire yourself in the mirror, and to carefully explore each garment as you go through the racks at your own speed.

The separates are quietly elegant, with a nod to trendy designers, so whatever you select will be as appropriate in New York as here in the Hamptons.

When you first walk in, you're greeted by the popular and whimsical underpants tree. Pink bejeweled lights with lace panties hanging playfully from the "branches". A sense of humor never hurts!

If you're not in the mood for major purchases, there are sweet gift items for sale, such as scarves, these charming soy candles and little boxes.

"Life's a Beach Salty Scrubs," made locally, have become an instant success, with friends recommending it to friends, across several degrees of separation!

Chic continues to stay open into the Fall.

Paraskevas Gallery in Westhampton Beach NY

"Still painting after all these years", and publishing, too, is Michael Paraskevas, whose delightful gallery on Main Street, next to Margarita Grill, overflows with colorful story-paintings. Words, of course, cannot describe, so here are a few pics of the walls of fun that you see when you step into his world.

Over the years, the paintings and the characters within them have spawned books for kids, as well as Nickelodeon's "Maggie and the Ferocious Beast".

Dan's Papers the long-running Hamptons newspaper/featurezine regularly includes cover artwork and cartoons by Paraskevas and his mother, Betty, who writes the copy.

The Green Monkeys are the stars of a daily online comic strip by the Paraskevas duo. In fact, I spied a new installment being penned on Michael's desk when I visited his gallery! Talk about hot off the press.

Funcho's Fajita Grill in Westhampton Beach NY

It's affordable, it's healthy, and it's fun. Whenever I'm on the run and hungry in Westhampton Beach, I stop in at Funcho's Fajita Grill for a delicious meal full of my faves: veggies, guacamole, beans, fish, rice, lettuce, etc.

There's lots more on the menu, of course, including tantalizing West Coast Fish tacos and Greek tacos. The Tijuana taco features blue corn soft tortillas.

If you're planning a party, Funcho's also offers catering.

July 4th was fun in Westhampton Beach

Westhampton BeachAh, the New York weekend life! Well worth the wait for the good ole LIRR at Penn Station to escape to beautiful Westhampton Beach!

Westhampton BeachAfter a June full of rain and cool, July 4th weekend was a gift of perfect weather. There were lines all day at Beach Bakery Cafe. And on Friday evening, the Satchel Boogie band drew a crowd out front with its funky-sweet songs.

So many cars cruising that it was hard to snap a clear picture across Main Street! Always good to return to Westhampton Beach and see Magic's Pub open for grog and chow.
